housing

The Freedom House is located in the East Bay Area on a peaceful 2,000 square foot property in a safe neighborhood. Many parolees do not have secure housing situation and so one of the most helpful things to getting their life back on track is a transitional home. Providing space for up to 8 the house is run collectively by the formerly incarcerated residents. The first year of housing costs are covered so that formerly incarcerated people can focus on reintegration.

RE ENTRY TEAMS

The world can be an overwhelming place for many recently released people. The BAFC teams assist with helping them find work, getting a drivers license, learning to use new technology, among many other things.

BAFC is building a corps of volunteers who provide peer support for recently released community members. Recently released members are matched with volunteers who can offer logistical and social/emotional support for a period of 3-6 months. Volunteers who can’t commit to a team may join a “reserve corps” of on-call volunteers offering occasional support. Additionally, volunteers with lived experience in reentry can serve as reentry advisors, offering advice and technical assistance to volunteers who are newer to reentry work.

advocacy

BAFC is actively supporting incarcerated people fighting for their Freedom. We support people in ICE detention to advocate for immigration reform. We also help prisoners with board hearing and support letters. One of our goal is to build a more just criminal justice system that focus on rehabilitation instead of retaliation .
